CONGRATULATIONS COACH

At the 44th Annual Rice Street Cup hockey game on January 16th between Como Park High School and St. Bernard’s High School, CAHA PeeWee Coach Dean Paitich was the recipient of the Mr. Hockey Award.  As stated in the game program: ‘We are all aware of the countless hours many of our dedicated hockey volunteers put in over the course of the Winter.  Picking someone who has contributed as a volunteer and is a deserving recipient of the Mr. Hockey Award is another way of saying “thank you” to all of the folks who make North End Hockey special.  Dean Paitich, pee wee hockey coach extrodinaire knows a lot about the game.  Growing up in the Paitich house you had better.  Dean was a fine player at Washington and was the City Conference scoring champion in 1978.  Congratulations, Dean.  You are a terrific choice!’   We couldn’t say it better – Congratulations, Coach!

COMO HOCKEY DAY

Our first Como Hockey Day event was a success!  Many visiting parents thought the venue was great and the day a lot of fun overall.  The firepits kept away the chill and the concessions were busy keeping tummies warm and hunger-free.  Even people from the neighborhood who wandered over to see what was going on at the rink thought it was a great idea and fun to watch.  A huge thank you to everyone involved in making the day such a success!

FUNDRAISING

Our association has been working hard to find fundraisers that work for us and bring in the additional funds needed to pay our ice bills and other expenses.  Each event has been successful in any number of ways.  We thank everyone for your participation.

At the last Board meeting, the financial numbers were crunched and we, as an association, come up about $9,000 short of funds to pay our outstanding bills.

We would like to have a Taco Feed and are in need of some volunteers to take charge of a committee to plan and hold this event.  Please contact either Christine Greeley at cmgreeley@gmail.comor Ann Scanlan at annjkss@msn.com

We are also interested in any other ideas you may have for fundraising events.  It is one of our goals to keep hockey affordable for our families and keep the association in the black.  Everyone doing his or her part will keep Como Hockey a viable organization.

CAHA BOARD MEETING

February is the time that the Board seeks nominations for Board positions that will be open for the 2009-10 season.  We are currently seeking nominations for the position of President.  If you are interested or know someone who is, please contact CAHA Secretary, Tracie Krause at rezurk24@aol.com

The next CAHA Board Meeting will be February 17th at 7pm at Schroeder’s (Front, just east of Dale St.).  Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend.

DISTRICT 1 TOURNAMENTS

CAHA is required to provide volunteers for District 1 tournaments.  We are scheduled to cover the hours of 2 to 8 pm on Saturday, March 7th for the Regional Tournament and for the hours of 3:15 to 8:15pm on Saturday, March 21st for the Junior Gold A Tournament.  All games will be at the Richfield Arena.  A minimum of 8 volunteers is needed each day.  If more volunteers sign up, the shifts can be split.  Any volunteer hours worked at these two tournaments can count towards the hours needed to fulfill the CAHA hours.  It is the very last opportunity to work off those hours for this season.  Steve Krause is the coordinator for these tournament events.  Please contact him at rezurk24@aol.com to volunteer.

COMO MITE JAMBOREE

The Jamboree begins Thursday, February 26th at Biff Arena.  CAHA will be hosting 22 teams participating in 26 games.  Volunteers will be needed to help with concessions and other off ice duties.  Look for sign up sheets at Biff soon or contact Cara Debes at cjdebes@aol.com

We are also in need of PeeWee and Bantam players to act as referees for the games.  Please contact ACE Coordinator, Mike McCullough at mikem.mjmltd@usfamily.net to get on the list of volunteers.  Mike will contact you to get on the game schedules.
